Imagination Is A Portal...

I've often seen the question posed, "If you could do anything you wanted, what would it be?" This question takes all kinds of forms - "If you had all the money you could ever want...", "If you had unlimited time...", among others, but the crux is always, ALWAYS asking us to use our imaginations to go beyond our current conditions.

In the book The Creative Act: A Way of Being, author Rick Rubin says that "Art is our portal to the unseen world." (Before I go any further, I need to say that Rick very effectively makes the case that we are all creative, we are all artists, so even if you don't feel particularly creative or "artistic" please don't jump ship just yet. This is for you too!)

Rubin says rightly that we aren't creating to produce or sell material products, not at the root of it. We create as an attempt to enter a mysterious realm, to satisfy a longing to transcend. In this way, making "Art" is indeed our portal to the unseen world. We can even see this in some people's "products" but it is more difficult to see in any given person's process.

I would like to go a step further and give some attention to the imagination, where all art and all creativity is born. It is IMAGINATION that is the portal to the unseen world, to the mysterious, indeed even to the Divine!

IMAGINATION is a process!

The unseen world is boundless. It is spirit. The seen world has its limitations. It is matter. We need both, but more than ever we need to call back the imagination to its rightful place in our lives.

Imagination as curiosity.
Imagination as possibility.
Imagination as play.
Imagination as limitlessness.

Imagination as a process and a practice!

You don't need a lot of time, or an etsy account, or even a bunch of supplies from Michael's or Hobby Lobby. To use the imagination to begin to change your life, all you need is intention, commitment and a few minutes at a time.

I'd love to help you establish a potentially life-changing imagination practice if you're interested in exploring that option. Mere fantasy pales at the possibilities available to you!
